Eurylochus was a character in Homer's epic poem, the Odyssey. He was a member of Odysseus' crew and one of his trusted advisors. When Odysseus and his men landed on the island of Aeaea, home of the sorceress Circe, Eurylochus was the one who convinced Odysseus to send a scouting party to investigate. However, the scouting party was turned into pigs by Circe's magic and Odysseus had to rescue them with the help of Hermes and the herb moly. Later on, Eurylochus convinced the crew to slaughter and eat the sacred cattle of the sun-god Helios, which angered the gods and led to the destruction of Odysseus' ship and the death of all his crew except for Odysseus himself. Eurylochus is often seen as a cautionary figure in the Odyssey, representing the dangers of disobedience and a lack of piety towards the gods.
